Dyskeratotic keratinocytes (Civatte bodies) Acanthosis Junctional split seen at the junction of the epithelium and lamina propria (unlike sloughing esophagitis) Foreign bodies indicate a foreign body granuloma. Specific forms of multinucleated giant cells include the Touton giant cell, which contains a ring of nuclei surrounding a central homogeneous cytoplasm, with foamy cytoplasm surrounding the nuclei. The central cytoplasm (surrounded by the nuclei) may be both amphophilic and eosinophilic.

Poikiloderma of Civatte is a benign, common and chronic condition, which belongs to the group of melanodermas (pigmented skin disorders). The term 'poikiloderma' refers to a skin change with atrophy where hypopigmentation / hyperpigmentation changes and dilation of the fine blood vessels (telangiectasia) can be seen in the affected skin. You can identify poikiloderma of Civatte by its characteristic features. In this condition, skin changes occur on your neck, chest, and cheeks. Civatte body is synonymous with ‘cytoid body’, ‘colloid body’ or ‘ keratin bodies’ and refers to an eosinophilic remnant of a keratinocyte within the basal layer or upper papillary dermis. ‘ Hyaline bodies’ are equivalent but occur in connective tissue.
